October 3 In Class Blog Post

I never knew anything about filter bubbles till I saw the video that explained about it. It is an interesting function that people do not know about. It gives you the answers that people with power over the search engines want you to see. It lets you see only the information that is important to your region and your previous searches. It could apply to the different databases since each on is different.  You will see something different in each database since each has its own search engines. In the databases I searched I noticed they both had papers on sexually motivated serial killers. Thought it was strange that a serial killer in most of the articles in my opinion was sexually motivated if you look of psychology of serial killers. The difference was that in the second database today we looked in, it was mainly about forensic investigation of serial killers and the mind concept of them. It was interesting to see how your results change depending on where you look for them. One is mainly about sexually orientated side of them, while the other focused on their mindset and how their minds work. It shows that each search engines has different filter bubbles that are used to see what information you want to see.

Sept 26 Assignment

I am still going to do my research project on Edward Qein, but going to make it be around the topic of accounting. I am going to make may research topic about how much it cost societies to pay for psychopaths. I will determine how much test costs to find out it someone is going to become one sooner or later, if they are accused. How much society has to pay for them when they are locked up in the house for crazy people. When people are killed by them, how much it cost to clean up the messes can also be a part of the topic. It cannot be cheap to clean up or take the test. Someone has to pay for all of this and it is most likely tax payers. So I will find out who pays for psychopaths to take the test and to get treatment in the loony bin. Once I find all this information about my topic it should be a just right of a topic. It will not need to be narrowed or broadened because it will have lots of information about how much it costs to help them get the treatment they need and to save the lives of others with the test.

Sept 19 Blog Post

The skills I have learned so far can be very beneficial to future classes and now in a lot of ways. I can now cite books for projects in future classes. This will help me get better grades in the class. I can now find books in the library for research projects. Before did not know how exactly to find a book in the library. I know that the government documents are on the first floor. Took us while to find them but we ended up finding them in the end. Which will help me find research material for classes. I know what a good subject and bad subject is. That you need a good sound subject that is debatable and can make people see your way. That certain sites might look good but are not. You need to see it credentials and author. If the person is well known or a government agency then the source should be a good on to cite and get information from. That it may look good but doesn't mean that it should be used if you’re not hundred percent sure that the source is reliable. I was taught a lot of information that will help me in my future classes for research projects and to get better grades and impress my teachers.

Sept 12 blog

When using Ingram Library catalog, I thought it was harder than using the one in high school one. The high school catalog seemed easier because there were fewer books to find and it was easier since not three floors to find books. In high school all the books are on one floor and not as many books to look through. We went around everywhere our first time looking for the book we wanted and it ended up being on the first floor for government documents. The Ingram Library catalog has way more options than the high school one. High school has the bare minimum that is required to get the research done while Ingram Library catalog has more than enough options to get your research done. It surprised me that all three floors have different letters and different categories of books. It was surprising how many books are in the library and how they broke up each of the categories. I had trouble with my assignment when I had to find a book located in I. Looked on all three floors and the book ended up being on the first floor with the government documents. It was in the left corner in an area that was kind of hidden.

Refined Research Question

My group decided to do our research topic on Edward Qein. I was going to go about how he could have been different if he had made something of his life. Instead I will go about my research topic in a different way. I was thinking about going about it in a way that has to deal with money and how much serial killers cost society. It cannot be cheap to have serial killers in society or to keep them in jail. It cost a lot of money to keep them in jail or prison and for legal cost of trials. It cannot be cheap to find them either and do test to see if people are going to go crazy at any time. Doctors and lawyers are expensive and got to be paid so society as a whole has got to pay for them. Meals in jail, shelter in jail, and such stuff cost society to keep such people locked up. It cost society to get the test done for the serial killers to be found sooner than when it’s too late. All this stuff cost and someone has got to pay for it. This is where my accounting will come into it.

Aug 29 research topic

In my group we choose to research about Edward Gein. He is a psychopath that butchered people and had mental issues. The human mind behind his actions is what interests me about it. I care for the topic because it sounds interesting and seeing everyones different intake off of it. I will approach from my accounting point of view that if he had invested and became a millionaire and wouldn't have killed all those people.
